Elias Signs New Multi-Year WWE Contract

The former 'Drifter' becomes the latest wrestler to dedicate his future to WWE.

As confirmed on last night's episode of WWE Backstage, Elias has become the latest wrestler to pledge his long-term future to his current employers, signing a new multi-year deal with the world's biggest wrestling promotion.

The exact terms of Elias' new deal haven't been revealed yet. Not a huge surprise, given that the story came directly from WWE itself, though five-year contracts have become the norm in recent months as the promotion attempts to tie talents up to keep them from potentially going elsewhere. It's safe to assume that Elias has probably scored a similar agreement.

This move makes all the sense in the world as it keeps Elias locked into a Sports Entertainment environment that suits his skillset perfectly. A tremendously entertaining personality with an enduring gimmick, his shtick may not resonate as well in other companies as it does in WWE, where he has carved out a nice little niche as a midcard crowd-popper.

Though he hasn't wrestled on television since September, Elias is on SmackDown almost every single week and recently confirmed his participation in the Royal Rumble match. Perhaps 2020 will be the year he launches himself up the card.
