Every Impossible Wrestling Return Ranked From Worst To Best
7. Edge
Edge's new character is the Fiend dissing your local sports team having swallowed a thesaurus.
If that's reductive and snarky, it's closer to that description than it is to his best work. Edge initially returned as the grizzled, shredded old man intent on finishing his illustrious career on his own terms. At first, there was a rare emotional heft to this WWE storyline built on the foundation of his history with Randy Orton. But then Edge struck one tone - intensity - and descended into parody with various vein-popping promos cut on his signature stool. His promos doubled as theatre auditions, and not exactly good ones, but in the ring, he was still as fantastic as ever. Rarely credited in snob circles, matches against Randy Orton (Backlash 2020) and Seth Rollins (Crown Jewel 2021) restored a classical, timeless sense of pacing and drama to WWE.
Edge used to be really, really funny. Now, at his worst, he's laughable.
It's not that Edge should have said "never" - aspects of the run have been excellent - more that he could really do with rediscovering his strengths.
Is what he's doing now as part of the new Judgment Day stable ambitious, or indulgent?
