There is concern within WWE following last night's SummerSlam pay-per-view that new WWE Universal Champion Finn Balor could require surgery for an injury sustained during his match with Seth Rollins.

The Demon King was pictured leaving a local hospital wearing a sling and PWInsider reports today that there is a belief the injury is severe enough as to require surgery. Balor will be examined later today to determine just how severe the injury is.

If he does indeed need surgery, this will be a huge blow to Balor. Fresh off his history-making victory at one of the biggest shows of the year, this is a setback neither he nor WWE needs right now. With Sasha Banks reportedly taking time off to recuperate from nagging injuries this would leave Raw's already-thin roster lacking star power - as well as two of the show's superior workers.

Watching the match back, it appears that Balor may have hurt his shoulder/arm when he was whipped into the ringside barricade relatively early into the contest. Obviously the match continued as scheduled and Balor picked up the win, but it could be a case of Balor 'gutting it out', knowing that this was one of the biggest matches of his career.

Balor has had a tough time of things with injuries this year, having previously injured his ankle in February.
