Finn Balor and Kyle O'Reilly engaged in brutal, bloody conflict on last night's WWE NXT New Year's Evil special, throwing down in a gritty NXT Championship match that left Balor bloodied up - and both men hospitalised.

Well, maybe. WWE's official medical updates are often worked.

The promotion tweeted the following after the show went off the air:-

If this is part of a story (and not a shoot), it is entirely appropriate, as Balor and O'Reilly both suffered legitimate injuries when they wrestled each other at TakeOver: 31 in October. A broken jaw sidelined 'The Prince' for three months, while the Undisputed Era man suffered a liver injury. Last night was Balor's first time back in the ring since the original clash.

New Year's Evil saw Balor defeated O'Reilly in under 20 minutes. The commercial-free main event saw the bloodied champion target KOR's jaw extensively, prompting medical intervention during the bout itself, while O'Reilly went after the champion's arm.

Balor is now 121 days into his second reign as NXT Champion. The aforementioned broken jaw means his only successful defences have come against O'Reilly thus far, with the three-month gap in between them.
