Former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro has passed away at just 39 years old.

WWE.com broke this tragic story last night. Medics had rushed to her Suffolk County, New York home after receiving a call reporting an unconscious female and although Ashley was given CPR en route to the hospital, she didn't make it. The cause of death is currently unknown, but Suffolk County Police have classified Massaro's passing as "non-criminal."

Massaro won a one-year WWE contract worth $250,000 after winning the 2005 Raw Diva Search, and teamed with Trish Stratus during her career's early stages. Her WWE run peaked when she fought Melina for the Women's Title at WrestleMania 23, and she made it onto the following year's card as well, though she was unsuccessful on both occasions.

2008 saw Massaro retire from WWE for the benefit of her sick daughter. She was extremely well thought of backstage, as illustrated by the stream of tributes pouring in this morning, with Mick Foley, Torrie Wilson, Bayley, and countless others all expressing their sorrow.

We here at WhatCulture would like to express our deepest condolences to Massaro's family and friends at this difficult time. Rest in peace.
