Former WWE Star Backstage At AEW Dynamite Last Night
Which former WWE title-holder was backstage at AEW Dynamite in Toronto?
Former WWE star Jacques Rougeau was backstage at last night's AEW Dynamite.
Fightful Select broke the news last night. The former 'Mountie' didn't appear on the show, which took place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
As well as being the first AEW show in Rougeau's home country, it was the first time the promotion had held a regular event outwith the United States, parts of 2021's Women's World Championship Eliminator Tournament notwithstanding.
A former WWE Intercontinental and Tag Team Champion, Rougeau has been in the wrestling business since starting with Stu Hart's Stampede Wrestling in 1977. His personal ties to the sport go back even further, with his old brother Ray, father Jacques Sr., and uncle Jean all working as promoters and/or wrestlers.
Jacques and Ray joined WWE in 1985, debuting as The Fabulous Rougeaus in early 1986. Ray retired in 1990, leaving Jacques to go it solo upon returning in 1991, adopting his Mountie gimmick. In and out of the company throughout the early '90s, he formed The Quebecers with Pierre Ouelett in 1993, came out of retirement for WCW in 1996, and commenced his final WWE run in 1998, though his and Ouellet's Quebecers reprisal wasn't a huge success.
Jacques announced his final retirement in August 2018.
