Current AEW Tag Team Champions FTR were guests on the promotion's Unrestricted podcast last week, with the duo going into detail on the year they spent trying to get released from WWE.

"We were very persistent, we asked once a month," said Dax Harwood. "We tried to get producers and writers to fight us. One time, I was going over this promo. I had the mic and we were cutting it for everyone to do a run-through, and Hunter's standing there, Michael Hayes is there, Johnny Ace is there. The promo they wrote for us and the angle we were going into was so bad. I finished, and I said 'who the f*ck wrote this, Martin Scorsese?!' and I put the mic down, and then we got called into the office with Bruce Prichard and Triple H."

Cash Wheeler went into detail on another story, saying he once "lost his sh*t" when a writer leaned over his food in catering to shake somebody else's hand. At that moment, he thought "I gotta get out of here, I'm gonna kill somebody soon."

FTR first requested their WWE releases in January 2019, reportedly doing so while still clad in their ring gear. WWE didn't let them go until April 2020.
