Speaking to the 'Carcass' podcast, Goldberg made his first public comments since losing his Universal title to Braun Strowman at WrestleMania 36.

It's well known that Roman Reigns opted to pull out of the pair's scheduled 'Mania 36 showdown for the blue strap due to being immunocompromised after his battle with leukemia in 2018/2019. In the podcast, however, Goldberg claimed that the match still had a chance of happening.

He said, “So literally until the 23rd hour, it was still a possibility that he and I were going to wrestle. So plans kind of changed at the very last minute. I did my match with Braun, and it was possible that I could do a match with Roman again before the 5th (the night the match was aired). That obviously fell through.”

Goldberg also confirmed in the appearance that his loss on the night was in fact his last match of the year.

'Da Man' also added that Reigns deserved respect for wanting to go through with the match right up until the 11th hour. He stated, “You know, more power to him to continually want to get it done. Whether that’s realistic or unrealistic from a person in his shoes are concerned. But you’ve got to love the guy because up to the 11th hour, he was still willing to do it.”

Goldberg has come under fire over the last week, as reports have surfaced about his backstage antics and the fact that he pushed to go over 'The Fiend' at Super Showdown in a bid to protect his character.

Therefore, it doesn't seem like the former Universal Champion will be marching down the ramp again any time soon, but at least he put Reigns over a little on the way out.
