How AEW’s Secret Weapon Must Return

A Bastard always pays his debts...

PAC Silence
AEW

On Friday, to much fanfare, AEW's Twitter account revealed that PAC, in isolation since March, will "break his silence" on this Wednesday's Dynamite.

Of course, later that night, England's Prime Minister announced a further four-week nationwide lockdown. This might complicate PAC's potential return, which the segment was certain to tease or outright confirm. The oldest rule to which any pro wrestling promoter must adhere - even Vince McMahon, who has forgotten most everything else, is adamant on this one - is that you do not promise that which cannot be delivered. AEW must have known that the very second this segment was announced, every hardcore fan was going to fantasy book the next chapter of his career. Which brings us here.

In parallel, NXT has debuted and reintroduced Toni Storm and Pete Dunne. Even if the travel restrictions workaround has not informed PAC "breaking his silence," the very idea that some sort of arrangement is in place has led AEW fans to connect some dots. They know that we know that something in theory can happen, and they trust us to discuss that something in fervent tones. The timing of the announcement was either conspicuous, or almost cruelly moronic.

Besides which, realistically, what else would PAC say? He has a motive to return in storylines - which will be covered imminently - but he's hardly going to say "I'm watching, I'm still pissed off, I'll be back some time in the future," particularly on a go-home show that needs the entire two hours to sell an international audience on a very important pay-per-view.
