Johnny Gargano's WWE contract is due to expire on 3 December - and the former NXT Champion is yet to agree on a new deal with the promotion.

This is according to Dave Meltzer, who writes in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE is pushing extremely hard to keep him. It is believed that an offer that would keep Gargano tied to the company for a "very long time" has been made.

Until that is signed, however, Gargano's tenure with WWE ends on 3 December.

Fightful Select broke news of the 34-year-old's expiring WWE deal on 14 September, with Meltzer corroborating the date in a later edition of the Observer.

Gargano has been with WWE since 2015. He has become one of the most decorated NXT wrestlers of all time since then, having held the NXT, Tag Team, and North American Championships throughout his six-year tenure, playing an important role near the top of the card for the bulk of that time as well.

Kyle O'Reilly's WWE contract is also set to expire some time next month, meaning that WWE's developmental brand could soon be short of two of its biggest stars.
