Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT reports that Cardiff's Principality Stadium has been pinpointed as a potential venue as WWE works to bring SummerSlam to the United Kingdom in 2022.

The Welsh national stadium's retractable roof is seen as a plus, with McCarthy noting that plans for WWE's UK pay-per-view return are looking "very positive".

WhatCulture reported last week that WWE was planning on holding a major PPV on British shores in September 2022. We noted at the time that the promotion intended on it being a stadium show, targeting an audience of up to 90,000.

The Principality Stadium's default configurations allow for 73,931 fans for rugby union and football or 78,000 for boxing. This would likely be different for a big-time pro wrestling show, with its elaborate stage setups.

Whatever the case, SummerSlam 2022 taking place in the UK would be fitting, given the 30-year anniversary of SummerSlam '92 at Wembley Stadium. If it happens, it'll also be the first time WWE has held a PPV in the county since June 2003, when Insurrextion took place in Newcastle upon Tyne's Telewest Arena.
