To start 2021 off with a bang, the first WWE Raw of next year will see Drew McIntyre defend his WWE Championship against Keith Lee.

On last night’s Raw, Lee defeated Sheamus to become the #1 contender for the red brand’s biggest prize – and Limitless will get his shot at the gold on next week’s episode of Raw.

This was a further continuation of a story that’s been brewing for several weeks now, with McIntyre finding himself in the middle of a simmering rivalry between Lee and Sheamus. As the next nuance in this tale, Lee toppled the Celtic Warrior last night after hitting his patented Spirit Bomb for the win.

Whether Keith Lee will be victorious next week, of course, that remains to be seen. Classic WWE logic would indicate McIntyre retaining – possibly due to interference from Sheamus – and us eventually getting a triple threat contest between the three at next month’s Royal Rumble PPV. That’s purely speculation and guesswork at this stage, mind.

Given the dour ratings achieved by Raw over the past several months, it’s clear WWE is eager to stop the rot – and going all-out on a huge WWE Championship match for the first Raw of 2021 is definitely a step in the right direction to pique interest.
