Kofi Kingston will go under the knife for ankle surgery on Friday afternoon (17 March).

That rules the New Day man out of contention for a spot on the card(s) at WrestleMania 39, which is a real shame for somebody who has such lineage at the annual event. Kofi posted a lengthy message on his official Twitter account detailing recent experiences and confirming the surgery.

There's no word quite yet on exactly how long he'll be out of action.

Sadly, due to Big E's ongoing injury issues, this means two of New Day's finest won't be there at 'Mania this year. Xavier Woods is the only member left standing, but there doesn't seem to be any place for him over the weekend festivities.

Kofi was previously pulled from a five-way match on SmackDown that was supposed to determine a new Intercontinental Title contender for reigning champ GUNTHER - he was replaced by Woods, but both Sheamus and Drew McIntyre ended up winning. Those two will now collide in a one-on-one rematch to thrash out GUNTHER's opponent for April.

Meanwhile, poor Kingston will be watching the show like everyone else.
