Interesting Note On AEW's Original Plans For Will Ospreay

Orange Cassidy's wasn't AEW's first choice for Will Ospreay at Forbidden Door.

Andrade El Idolo has told 'Lucha Libre Online' that he was originally supposed to wrestle Will Ospreay at the AEWxNJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view this coming weekend.

El Idolo would've faced Ospreay for the Englishman's IWGP United States Championship.

Neither Andrade nor the Lucha Bros will be able to work the event due to their links with AAA in Mexico; the promotion has blocked some workers from accepting New Japan-related dates due to the Japanese company's affiliation with CMLL.

AEW decided to slot Orange Cassidy in as Ospreay's opponent instead. No offence intended to him, but most fans would've preferred El Idolo vs. Will on 26 June. They'd have had a banger of a match, and still could if Ospreay plans to stick around on All Elite programming post-pay-per-view.

Andrade noted that he would've shown up in New Japan before now had he been allowed. Sadly, AAA's policies barred him from flying out to Japan for angles/matches with Ospreay's United Empire stable ahead of time.

So, to summarise, El Idolo will miss Forbidden Door due to a working relationship agreement between NJPW and AAA's rival promotion CMLL.
