Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement from the National Football League on Sunday, immediately fuelling speculation that he was finally set to embark on a long-rumoured career in professional wrestling.

Some even anticipated him showing up when Monday Night Raw hit his Boston base this week. That didn't happen, but Gronk did pose for a photo opportunity at a WWE community event on Tuesday evening, along with Braun Strowman, Mojo Rawley, and Mickie James:-

Stephanie McMahon has added further fuel to the fire with the following tweet, in which she appears to be courting the 29-year-old for a WWE career:-

On top of all this, Lio Rush called Gronkowski out on this week's Raw, telling rival Finn Balor that he'd soon be "forced to leave the game as a beaten, broken, hot piece of garbage like Rob Gronkowski."

So is the former NFL tight end on his way to the company? It's impossible to say for sure, but he is close friends with Rawley, whom he assisted in WrestleMania 33's Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, and his name has been linked with pro-wrestling several times since then.

It's all speculative at the moment, but this is one to keep an eye on for sure.
