Japanese wrestling legend The Great Muta appeared on last night's 'Grand Slam' edition of AEW Rampage.

The former four-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion ran out to help Sting and Darby Allin during their 'No DQ' tag match opposite House Of Black members Brody King and Buddy Matthews. Muta hit Buddy with his trademark green mist and a Dragon Screw.

Sting then smashed his foes with a Scorpion Death Drop for the popular win.

Muta and Sting previously worked together in both New Japan and WCW throughout the late-1980s and into the 90s. Post-Rampage, Pro Wrestling NOAH announced on Twitter that the Stinger will jet off to Japan and appear on Muta's retirement show. That's scheduled for 22 January 2023.

This, in effect, was a little bit of set-up for that.

NOAH revealed that Sting will compete in the 'Yokohama Arena Tournament' as tribute to one of his great rivals. Both men posed together on Rampage after Muta's run-in - that was a cool moment for long-time NWA/WCW fans who happened to be tuning in.

It's unclear whether or not Muta will work a match or two for AEW before January's retirement.
