Jay Lethal To Defend ROH World Title At NJPW G1 Climax Finals

A member of New Japan's Third Generation gets his chance at ROH glory on August 14th.

Lethal Kojima

For the second time in 2016, Jay Lethal is to defend the Ring of Honor World Championship at a major New Japan Pro Wrestling event. On the final show of the G1 Climax Tournament on August 14th, Lethal will put the title on the line against Satoshi Kojima, a two-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion and winner of the 2010 G1 Climax.

The match is one of two announced for the show to involve ROH roster members, with Jay & Mark Briscoe booked to defend their recently-won IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships against Bullet Club duo Yujiro Takahashi and Hangman Page. This marks the first defence of the titles for 'Dem Boys.

Lethal successfully defended his ROH World Championship against Michael Elgin at Wrestle Kingdom 10 in January, and the relationship between the two promotions also saw Tomohiro Ishii win the ROH TV Championship for a short time earlier in the year.

Lethal is also booked for the final two nights of the G1 Climax group stages, teaming with Los Ingobernables de Japon on both nights. On August 12th he will team with Tetsuya Naito, EVIL and SANADA to take on the Bullet Club team of Kenny Omega, Tanga Loa, Takahashi and Page, before resuming ties with SANADA (along with BUSHI) the next night to battle Kojima, KUSHIDA and Hiroshi Tanahashi on August 13th.

I dare say BUSHI will take the fall in that match.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
