Joe Hendry is TNA World Heavyweight Champion.

Hendry defeated Nic Nemeth in the main event of TNA Genesis to become Champion of the company for the first time and the first new Champion since the organisation announced a working relationship with WWE. He won clean too, drilling Nemeth with two Standing Ovations to secure the strap following a 2024 that saw him become a viral sensation, sentimental favourite within TNA and NXT crossover star.

The match was Hendry's second shot at scoring the gold having lost at Bound For Glory following interference by John Layfield. The former WWE Champion was back once again at Genesis, but this time in a way that assisted the Challenger - Layfield took out Frankie Kazarian with a Clothesline From Hell right as it appeared as though he'd use his Call Your Shot trophy to add himself to the title match while both competitors were down.

All of that may be notable on the other side of the business agreement too - JBL will be on Monday Night Raw tonight for the first time since he started making similar appearances across the wrestling world. No word yet on what he might do, or if the prior links to Nemeth (former WWE star Dolph Ziggler) or Hendry will factor in what he might have to say. Hendry in particular has long been rumoured for a Royal Rumble spot, and could be the third active TNA Champion to work the match following Mickie James in 2022 and Jordynne Grace in 2024.
