Currently seen on the silver screen in Fast & Furious 9, John Cena has now been announced as part of the all-star cast of Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle.

As per Variety, the 16-time World Champion has signed on to join Henry Cavill (Man of Steel), Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Sam Rockwell (Moon), Catherine O’Hara (Schitt's Creek) and Samuel L. Jackson (way too many projects to choose from...) in what is being planned to be the first of at least a three-film franchise.

Argylle is being produced by Vaughn’s MARV studio, with the Kingsman and Kick-Ass director adapting Ellie Conway’s novel of the same name. That thriller is due to be published early next year, with the story centring on super-spy Argylle (seemingly Cavill) as he ventures across the USA, London and various other locations.

In an official statement, Vaughn stated how Argylle “is going to reinvent the spy genre” and boldly proclaimed the tale as “the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming’s books of the ‘50s” – Fleming, of course, being the creator of James Bond.

The Argylle movie will start shooting in Europe next month. As for John Cena, he'll also be seen as Peacemaker later this month in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad - which makes its way to cinemas from 30 July.
