John Cena Joins Fast & Furious 9 Cast

Cena will play "a badass."

This past April, action hero Vin Diesel teased that John Cena would be making an appearance in Fast & Furious 9. Last night, Universal confirmed that the Hollywood-charmed WWE superstar is indeed part of the cast.

There's no word on the nature of Cena's character in the latest instalment of the long-running odometric romp, other than that he'll be "a badass." How original!

Fellow wrestler-turned-thesp and erstwhile hardman The Rock is apparently not scheduled for the picture.

After the news was announced, the latest star Tweeted:

"For nearly 20 years, the Fast Franchise has entertained fans and created some of the biggest cinematic moments in history. It’s an incredible honor to join this franchise and this family."

The first Fast & Furious raced into cinemas way back in 2001. Since then, it has spawned eight sequels, spin-off Hobbs & Shaw (produced and directed by The Rock), several video games and even a Broadway production.

Cena's association with WWE has been increasingly infrequent as he becomes more of a sought-after commodity at the box-office. He rolled back the years to appear as the Doctor of Thuganomics at WrestleMania 35 this year - his last appearance for the company - beating down Elias after an old-school rap battle. It's fair to say that mentally, he's checked out of the ring.
