John Cena Shoots On His "Weird" WWE Debut

Kurt Angle and WWE's approach goes under John Cena's microscope, and he's still confused!

John Cena has a bit of a love/hate relationship with his WWE debut.

The 16-time World Champion reflected on that moment during a recent interview for WWE's YouTube channel, and it wasn't all favourable. In fact, Cena called the moment "weird" and questioned both Kurt Angle and the company itself for "an inside joke to see if it would make me exhausted".

Kurt has previously been open and honest on his own pod about being tasked with tiring the newbie out and seeing if he could hang in-ring. JC believes that should've been thrashed out before putting him on SmackDown in front of millions.

He passed the test with flying colours, at least.

Cena wishes he'd embraced WWE's "Ruthless Aggression" mantra more at the time too. He wondered aloud whether or not he should've 'marked out' when shaking The Undertaker's hand during a later backstage segment, or even been so content to wear generic boots and trunks to the ring for the bout with Angle.

Now, he describes the debut as "an accidental match" that he wasn't given much time to prepare for. The whole thing, again, felt "weird".
