Kairi Sane has fueled speculation of a pro wrestling return outwith WWE by removing references to the promotion from her social media accounts.

The former NXT Women’s Champion switched her Instagram handle from @kairi_wwe to @official_kairi at some point over the past few days. In addition, her Instagram and Twitter bios now claim she is a “former WWE superstar” - a line that wasn’t there until recently.

It was worth pointing out that Sane still has "WWE" referenced in her Twitter handle.

Kairi also teased returning to the ring in direct response to a fan saying they missed watching her wrestle, quote-tweeting the following:-

Sane last wrestled on the 20 July 2020 episode of WWE Raw, on which she defeated Bayley as part of her and former tag partner Asuka’s feud with the then-SmackDown Women’s Champion and Sasha Banks. She returned to her native Japan soon after this, having done so to spend more time with her new husband, though WWE retained her in an ambassadorial role that prevented her from working elsewhere.

February 2021 saw WWE deny Sane permission to work a pay-per-view for her former home promotion, Stardom
