Keith Lee Exits WWE Amidst Mass Releases

That new 'Bearcat' gimmick WWE handed Keith Lee on Raw won't continue.

Keith Lee has been released by WWE.

Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp dished the details during a volley of tweets that sadly brought the curtain down for many WWE stars. Nia Jax, Karrion Kross and Scarlett were just some of the names that shocked fans on social media during a depressing Thursday night release rush, but Lee is definitely one of the most surprising.

Keith had just been repackaged under his new 'Bearcat' gimmick, and he appeared to be getting quite the push on Raw. In fact, Lee recently squashed Hurt Business man Cedric Alexander in just over two minutes. This seemed to suggest that WWE had high hopes for their bold new direction.

It wasn't to be.

Lee had previously tweeted a few times to mildly express his own dissatisfaction with how things were going too. The former NXT Champion's entire WWE run has been very start-stop since he traded the old Capitol Wrestling Center for Monday nights.

'Bearcat' appeared to be his road out of creative hell, but no - now, Lee's fans will wait to see where the agile big man ends up. AEW is already (perhaps predictably) being waved around as a possible destination.
