Did Brie Bella's injury cancel WWE's plans for AWOL comeback queen AJ Lee?

Fightful Select's sources within WWE tell them that comeback queen AJ Lee hasn't wrestled her last match for the promotion despite being posted missing since WrestleMania 42. AJ hasn't worked a match or shown up at all since dropping the Women's Intercontinental Title to Becky Lynch during the opening night in Las Vegas.

The website did address speculation that Lee was going to get involved in the issues between The Bella Twins and Paige before Brie was struck down by injury. That has put a major question mark next to the storyline, because it's barely been referenced on WWE television since SummerSlam.

More recently, Paige has been hanging around with other babyfaces and challenging Fatal Influence's Jacy Jayne for the Women's United States belt. It remains to be seen whether or not she'll work a few matches vs. Nikki Bella whilst Brie recovers, or if Triple H will simply move on from the story full stop.

On that, Fightful said the following: "Those in creative we spoke to said that they had not heard AJ Lee was actually planned for that angle, and the talent involved hadn’t been told what the plan was as of Brie Bella’s injury".

So, it might've been pencilled in that AJ was going to get involved, but there's no concrete proof of that. There's also no definitive timeline for Lee's return to action either. In total, she's worked just 5 matches for WWE since returning to the promotion in late-2025. The latter 3 have all been singles bouts - 2 against Becky and another vs. Bayley.
