WWE officials are actively planning out the best way to reintroduce Drew McIntyre on Raw and SmackDown behind the scenes. PWInsider reports that conversations have taken place amongst the writing staff about what the big Scot should be doing once he returns from his sabbatical.

Drew vanished from screens following his incredible Hell In A Cell war vs. CM Punk on the 5 October Bad Blood PLE in Atlanta. That match earned rave reviews from all corners of the wrestling map for being a feisty, believable brawl that put respect back on the Cell gimmick's name following decades of inconsistent quality and damage.

The red hot heel needed 16 staples to close wounds after that bout, but he's also taken time away from the ring to deal with family issues. Those won't be deliberated here in great length, because they're clearly personal and private to Drew. That should be respected. It is, however, perfectly understandable that fans want to know when they'll see McIntyre bring his blistering brilliance back to TV.

PWInsider's Mike Johnson notes that the Claymore Kicking menace is "closer to returning" than some might think.

Should WWE Hold Off Until Royal Rumble 2025?

The 2020 Royal Rumble was a career highlight for Drew and will be a delight for anybody binge watching each event in the future. He won the match and then snagged the WWE Title from Brock Lesnar at a super-weird WrestleMania 36. It was a whirlwind few months for the then-babyface hero. Could he be in for another splash of Rumble magic? Stranger things have happened.

WWE would need to show patience there though. 2025's Rumble happens on 1 February instead of the traditional January slot. That means McIntyre would have to sit on the sidelines twiddling his thumbs for another few months before returning as one of the 30-man bout's surprises.

Can WWE (and Drew himself) wait that long?

McIntyre has enjoyed a fine 2024. He arguably worked his best match ever vs. Punk at Bad Blood, and it's clear there's way more to come from him as a villain. Triple H might be eager to get Drew back on television as soon as possible so he can resume his stunning body of work.

Again, Trips and other members of upper WWE management are actively discussing the best way to bring McIntyre back soon. Keep your eyes peeled!
