Lucha Underground Season 2 Announced!
The incredibly popular show on El Rey Network will be back with season two.
Lucha Underground, the lucha libre wrestling show on El Rey Network that has developed somewhat of a cult following, has announced that they will return for a second season in 2016. Lucha Underground posted the following to Twitter. https://twitter.com/LuchaElRey/status/646085205581697024 Arguably one of the most entertaining wrestling shows of 2015, Lucha Underground gives a fresh spin on professional wrestling. Featuring high flying lucha libre style matches alongside a Hollywood-style show format helped propel the show to rave reviews from those within the wrestling industry over the past year. The main obstacle to getting a second season had been funding the show. Lucha Underground operates in a way that is hard to earn a profit, given they film their shows in a sound stage in Los Angeles and do no actual live events or touring. The show features American independent wrestlers as well as stars from Mexico's top promotion, AAA (Asistencia Asesoría y Administración). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIPkT7aAhsE It is expected that the show will resume its Wednesday night, 8:00 p.m. ET time slot on the El Rey Network at some point in early 2016. In the past, the show has also aired Saturdays in Spanish on UniMas at 4:00 p.m. ET. A press release was officially put-out by El Rey Network on Tuesday that indicated filming would begin in the fourth quarter of this year in the same Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles where the show had previously been filmed. That filming location, dubbed "The Temple," is an interesting choice given how season one of Lucha Underground ended. On the season finale, wrestlers were seen fleeing The Temple to a new location.
