AEW creative update on MJF, Ricky Starks, CM Punk, Samoa Joe, and more.

MJF's current AEW World Championship program with Samoa Joe was always on the cards, despite the creative upheaval CM Punk's recent departure from the promotion has prompted.

Fightful Select reports that although Punk's AEW exit has "changed a lot of plans," MJF vs. Joe wasn't one of them, with the duo set to contest the World Championship on this Wednesday's special Grand Slam episode of Dynamite.

Punk appeared to be heading for a collision with MJF as part of his Real World's Championship storyline. Fightful had previously reported that Punk was set to continue feuding with Ricky Starks over that strap, having established 'Absolute' as his top rival in Collision's early days.

Interestingly, it is stated that there were no "immediate plans" for MJF and Punk to feud together, despite both holding "World" Titles. Joe and MJF's plans were already in place prior to the recent chaos.

Punk wrestled Joe in his last AEW match at All In on 27 August. One week later, the controversial Chicagoan was released from his contract with the promotion, having become embroiled in a backstage scrap with Jack Perry at All In.
