HUGE 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin WrestleMania 40 Plans Scrapped

An iconic WrestleMania 40 glass smash was ultimately scrapped.

'Stone Cold' Steve Austin didn't make an epic cameo at WrestleMania 40, but WWE did originally earmark the icon for an important role in the Night Two main event.

As noted by Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the company wanted 'The Texas Rattlesnake' to be one of the people who rushed down to the ring to help Cody Rhodes during his Undisputed WWE Championship battle with Roman Reigns in Philadelphia.

However, the two parties "couldn’t reach a financial agreement", so The Undertaker was brought in as the legend to stop 'The Final Boss' assisting his cousin during that show-closer.

Many were understandably hoping to see a few stars of the past help out 'The American Nightmare' as he clashed with 'The Tribal Chief' under Bloodline Rules, with a lot of fans keeping their fingers crossed for an Austin and John Cena double run-in.

And while the latter part of that fantasy scenario eventually came true, 'The Deadman's gong arrival and chokeslam ultimately replaced what could have been a possibly even more stunning glass smash and stunner.
