Matt Hardy's AEW Contract Extended To Match Jeff's Deal
Looks like the Hardy Boyz are locked in with the company for a while together.
A day after Jeff Hardy dominated the wrestling buzz with his All Elite Wrestling debut on Wednesday, news broke Thursday that older brother Matt is staying put in the company as well.
Fightful Select reports that Matt Hardy's deal with AEW has been extended and matched up with Jeff's contract, which makes perfect sense considering they are now functioning as a tag team. Hardy confirmed the news via his Twitch stream, saying, "I've extended my contract with AEW, I'm going to be there a little bit longer. They matched myself and Jeff up, which was very cool. We can still do outside appearances."
Since Jeff's WWE release in December, the Hardys have been commanding huge interest on the indie and signing circuit, so having that flexibility to book those appearances had to be a big factor in Jeff coming in and Matt re-upping with the company.
Matt debuted in AEW in March 2020. Fightful reports that numerous talent in the company have said that Matt has been helpful during his time in the promotion.
Lastly, it's worth noting that Fightful has been told that WWE is not expected to take any legal action against AEW for violating Jeff's 90-day non-compete clause, as Hardy didn't travel for Dynamite until Wednesday, when he was a free agent.
