While she came up short against Willow Nightingale at NJPW Resurgence, more worrying for Mercedes Moné is that she appears to have suffered a broken ankle during that bout.

For those who've yet to see Resurgence, Mercedes lost against Willow in a match to crown the inaugural NJPW Strong Women's Champion. Towards the close of that bout, Moné struggled to put any weight on her right foot after taking a fall to the outside.

Via Mike Johnson over at PWInsider.com, the word backstage at Resurgence was that Moné has broken her ankle.

In addition to this, the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio had Dave Meltzer note how the former Sasha Banks was intending to go for a Code Red off the top rope, but the fall to the outside happened because Mercedes lost her balance.

Meltzer and co-host Bryan Alvarez also detailed how Moné was originally due to defeat Nightingale, but clearly a decision was made on the fly to change the result due to the injury.

For her part, Mercedes has taken to Twitter to let her fans know she'll be taking some time to heal and then will be back better than ever.

From us all at WhatCulture Wrestling, here's hoping for a swift and full recovery for Mercedes Moné.
