Missing AEW Star Returns On Dynamite, Brings Old WWE Gimmick Back

This AEW star reprised a favoured old WWE gimmick in his Dynamite comeback.

Shawn Spears
AEW/WWE

Shawn Spears is back in All Elite Wrestling - and so is his 'Perfect 10' gimmick.

To an extent.

The former Pinnacle member returned on last night's episode of Dynamite, joining forces with his old stablemates, FTR, who had confronted Prince Nana and The Embassy following Wardlow and Samoa Joe's win over The Factory's Nick Comoroto and QT Marshall. The Embassy wanted a match with WarJoe, FTR wanted a piece of The Embassy, and Spears served as an equaliser.

FTR and Spears vs. The Embassy (Brian Cage, Kaun, and Toa Liona) has since been announced for Friday's Rampage episode. Like last night's Dynamite, this will be taped in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, but on Thursday.

Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler built Spears' comeback up, calling back to the 'Perfect 10' character that saw him first rise to prominence as WWE's Tye Dillinger. This was over huge in the building - and when Spears emerged, he was far from the stooge heel he'd played the last time he was on AEW television.

Shawn last wrestled for AEW on 25 May, losing to Wardlow in a Steel Cage match as part of ally MJF's then-ongoing feud with the current TNT Champion. Spears had been missing from television ever since.
