Candice LeRae returned to WWE this week, ending a 13-month hiatus from wrestling with a surprise appearance to squash Nikki A.S.H. on Raw.

The 20-year veteran announced last August that she was taking time off as she and husband Johnny Gargano were expecting their first child. The couple then welcomed their son, Quil, to the world in February, and with Johnny already out of WWE, Candice's own deal expired in May.

Now, just like her husband, Candice is back in WWE - but there was competition for her services.

Dave Meltzer reports in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that people within All Elite Wrestling had pushed for the Tony Khan-helmed group to sign LeRae. When Gargano re-joined WWE and the promotion's high-level executive shakeup went down, she ended up going with the market leaders.

LeRae was involved in a backstage confrontation with Damage CTRL following her match with A.S.H. Meltzer speculates on an alliance with Asuka, Bianca Belair, and Alexa Bliss in the Observer, potentially leading to a WarGames match with the Bayley-helmed heel group at Survivor Series 2022 (26 November).

Candice had been signed to WWE since January 2018 prior to her departure.
