It is believed that Adam Cole was concussed at AEW X Forbidden Door on Sunday, hence the rough finish to his four-way match with 'Switchblade' Jay White, Kazuchika Okada, and 'Hangman' Adam Page.

Bryan Alvarez stated as much on Wrestling Observer Radio, having already reported that Cole was injured at the 26 June pay-per-view. Alvarez's colleague, Dave Meltzer, cited the concussion as the reason for the clunky finish, adding that the Undisputed Elite man was already working through a torn labrum.

White pinned Cole at Forbidden Door, retaining the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship in the process. This came following Cole slumping to the mat after Kazuchika Okada attempted to hit him with a Rainmaker. While it initially looked like Cole was selling a move that didn't land, closer inspection revealed that something had gone awry, particularly with White communicating with the referee afterwards - and The Young Bucks checking on Cole after arriving at ringside.

There is currently no word on how long Cole will be absent. AEW's announcers stressed during Forbidden Door that he was able to leave of his own volition.

The Owen Hart Cup winner was previously injured at Double Or Nothing 2022 (29 May), where he faced Samoa Joe.
