New Match Set For Tonight's AEW Dynamite
Tonight's episode of Dynamite gets a big addition from the women's division.
Thunder Rosa will wrestle Penelope Ford on tonight's episode of AEW Dynamite, the promotion has confirmed.
This was set up by an angle on last night's Dark show. Rosa hit the commentary booth for Ford's match with Masha Slamovich, whom the former NWA Women's World Champion put over huge. Ford won, tapping her opponent out with a Muta Lock, then attacked Slamovich after the bell, drawing Rosa out of the booth to make the save.
Later, AEW confirmed the match had been put together at Rosa's request:-
.@thePenelopeFord continued to assault her beaten opponent @mashaslamovich after the bell, so guest commentator @thunderrosa22 ran in to save her friend! Thunder Rosa has requested a match vs. Penelope, & GM @TonyKhan has booked it for #AEWDynamite tomorrow Live at 8pm ET/7pm CT! pic.twitter.com/hBeTkXnEZ1

This will be Thunder Rosa's second Dynamite match since signing a full-time AEW contract in July. Her last was a quick victory over Julia Hart on 28 July. Ford, meanwhile, last wrestled on Dynamite on the 14 July episode, losing to Yuka Sakazaki. She has wrestled Thunder Rosa once before, doing so on a Sabotage Wrestling show back in March 2019.
Thunder Rosa had previously been pinpointed as AEW Women's World Champion Britt Baker's potential opponent for All Out 2021, though AEW now look to be building towards Baker vs. Kris Statlander for 5 September. It's unlikely that Rosa will have to wait long for contendership, however: she was first in the company's latest set of rankings.
