New TNT Champion Crowned On AEW Dynamite

Scorpio Sky's undefeated streak will continue, but he will now be defending the TNT Championship along with his loss-free period.

The Men of the Year man defeated Sammy Guevara in the main event of AEW Dynamite Wednesday, capturing the TNT title and ending the Spanish God's second reign after just six weeks. Sky took advantage of Sammy crashing and burning on an attempted 630 senton through a table on the floor, moving and letting Guevara crash through the wood and further injuring his ribs.

The reckless act proved to be detrimental, but ultimately, Guevara was distracted when Tay Conti (Sammy's girlfriend) was attacked by the newest AEW signee Paige VanZant and then ate Sky's TKO. The couple were beaten down to close Dynamite, giving American Top Team something to crow about for the first time in a while and a feud that could help bring along VanZant.

Scorpio hadn't lost a singles match since the last time he challenged for the TNT Championship, when he lost to Darby Allin on March 10, 2021. Since then, he had won 12 straight singles bouts before Wednesday's title match, though all of them were on Dark and Elevation. Along the way, he managed to beat a couple of members of Dark Order, Captain Shawn Dean and Mike Sydal.

Sky is only the second person in AEW to hold two different titles, as he was the inaugural AEW World Tag Team Champion as part of SCU. (Kenny Omega has held the tag and world titles.)

Sky becomes the sixth person to hold the TNT title and will now face Wardlow, who won the Face of the Revolution ladder match at AEW Revolution, on next week's Dynamite. Given Wardlow's momentum, Scorpio could be little more than a transitional champion whose days are numbered in the single digits.
