New WWE SmackDown Tag-Team Champs Crowned

No, it didn't happen in a proper tag-team match. Go figure...

Big E defeated The Miz and Jey Uso in a Triple Threat match to help New Day become the new SmackDown Tag-Team Champions on Friday's show.

The main event was hectic, it was fairly short and it didn't make much sense, but New Day are now eight-time Tag-Team Champs in WWE. For the record, that's two reigns with the Raw belts and a whopping six with the SmackDown versions.

The only downside is that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were nowhere to be found as E won the titles all on his lonesome in what was effectively a singles effort for Tag-Team straps. 2020 WWE (and pro wrestling in general, to be honest) is pretty damn weird.

This also represents a poor end for The Miz and John Morrison as champs. Their 50-day stint in the title hot seat is one few will remember a few months, if not weeks, from now, and it's anyone's guess how WWE heat them back up again for another sprint at the gold.

Some on social media are, perhaps rightly, requesting that WWE stick to actual tag matches from now on.
