The Bella Twins quietly retired from professional wrestling earlier this year, with Nikki and Brie announcing their decision to step away from the squared circle on a March edition of their Total Bellas reality show.

Nikki has now opened up on her decision in an interview on Wednesday's episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon:-

Speaking to Fallon (h/t Cageside Seats for the transcription), Nikki claimed that she and Brie "really wanted to go back and fight for the tag titles," though she conceded that she has "always had [her] neck injuries, and after neck surgery it hasn't been okay."

Nikki said that when she went for a check-up after attempting to come back for said belts, she found out she'd "herniated the disc above where [she] had surgery. [She] has all this inflammation around the metal and a cyst on [her] brain, so they were like: 'you're done, no more, you're out.'"

A shame for Nikki, but it definitely sounds like this is for the best. Her long-term health takes an obvious precedent over any lingering wrestling ambitions. She and Brie can now focus on their success in other mediums.
