New Japan Pro Wrestling is considering running a huge Madison Square Garden show this summer, according to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The writeup states that while nothing has been announced or confirmed, the promotion had talked about a potential August date as recently as a few weeks ago, having seemingly been spurred on by the success of last year's smash-hit G1 Supercard show.

A collaborative effort with Ring of Honor, the G1 Supercard sold out less than an hour after tickets had gone on sale. It wouldn't be so easy in 2020, though. Last year's event was held over WrestleMania weekend, meaning tens of thousands of hardcore pro-wrestling fans were already in New York City and therefore didn't have to travel specifically for the show. It was also announced when significant US draws Kenny Omega, Cody, and The Young Bucks were under contract, though The Elite had departed by the time the Supercard rolled around.

It'll be interesting to see if anything comes of this, particularly with NJPW's American business slowing in recent years. We'll bring you all the updates on this situation as it develops.
