11. 2014 - Nobody Else Wanted The Streak To End

At WrestleMania XXX, Brock Lesnar put an end to the Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak.

It was an unthinkable decision that elicited a totally surreal scene. If the decision was bad, the handling of it wasn’t: WWE, across denial (the lack of reaction), bargaining (the idea that the finish had been botched) and acceptance (the 21-1 graphic) effectively orchestrated the stages of grief.

Vince McMahon settled on one of his most bold booking decisions ever because he thought the Undertaker was thrashed and wasn’t capable of doing another match after that one. As terrible a booker and eye for talent as he was at this time - and for several yeats before and since - he was mostly correct. ‘Taker enjoyed a good epilogue in 2015 and Graveyard Dogs were great, but he was finished, and Vince knew it.

Nobody else believed him, per the June 2 WON. The “majority viewpoint” within WWE was that ‘Taker should not have lost, but for political reasons of self-preservation, nobody expressed this to Vince at the time nor since.
