WWE's Damage CTRL faction is Bayley, Dakota Kai and IYO SKY, but it was almost very different.
Kai revealed during a chat with the 'Getting Over' podcast that SKY originally wasn't part of Bayley's pitch to WWE bosses. Instead, the leader wanted Dakota, Candice LeRae and Tegan Nox in the group. Vince McMahon, who was calling the shots when that happened a few years ago, said no.
Bayley wouldn't be denied - she tried again, but unsuccessfully pitched a remodelled CTRL starring herself, Kai, SKY, Alba Fyre (as Kay Lee Ray) and Raquel Rodriguez. That idea got far enough along that the five-strong stable shot some group pictures readying their debut.
Then, Triple H nixed that and Damage CTRL was eventually streamlined to Bayley, Kai and IYO in time for SummerSlam this past July.
That pay-per-view became a historic one for WWE. It was the first supershow without Vince at the helm, and it was also Hunter's very first PPV with complete control over everything. He was delighted to welcome Bayley back into the mix following injuries, and to put both Dakota and IYO by her side.
