Paul Heyman Explains Why WWE Fans Turned On Roman Reigns

Reigns was booked into an un-winnable situation, according to Heyman.

Paul Heyman recently appeared as a guest on Chael Sonnen's Podcastone show, You're Welcome. During the show, the topic of Roman Reigns came up. Specifically, how vocally the fans turned on Reigns during the Royal Rumble this past January in Philadelphia. Heyman gave the following explanation for the fans' reaction to Reigns at the event.

€œI think what happened to Roman is he€™s the right guy in the right place at the wrong time. Roman came in and had all this momentum behind him. Had not announced Daniel Bryan€™s return at the Royal Rumble and put it in people€™s heads that Daniel Bryan would make this miraculous come back two years in a row, then I think Roman Reigns would have been the person everyone would look to win the Royal Rumble.€
This is pretty much in-line with what many in the wrestling media wrote at the time. If Daniel Bryan wasn't going to win the Royal Rumble, why bring him back during the event at all? Holding Bryan's return off a little while, even one day, would have certainly helped Roman Reigns. The position that Reigns was put into was very difficult, with a raucous Philadelphia crowd wanting to see a returning Daniel Bryan win the chance for a WrestleMania title shot. There was very little that Reigns could do to win over the fans in Philadelphia that night. Paul Heyman is currently booked to make his return to WWE television Monday night during RAW in Cleveland, Ohio.
