WWE reportedly has a major title fight in the works for Royal Rumble 2021.

WWE currently plan on having Bobby Lashley defend his United States Championship against Riddle at Royal Rumble 2021.

This is according to Dave Meltzer, who writes in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE had originally intended to put the match together for TLC 2020, which goes down this Sunday (20 December). Plans apparently changed when the company didn't announce the clash for TLC, with the Royal Rumble now pegged instead.

WWE had teased adding Jeff Hardy to the fray to make it a three-way a few weeks ago. There's currently no word on whether or not this is still on the table.

WWE is yet to officially confirm a date for Royal Rumble 2021, which traditionally goes down on one of the last Sundays in January. It has been reported on several occasions that the promotion hopes to be able to invite live fans back for the signature event. Whether they'll be able to do this or not remains to be seen, though 3,000+ fans returning to Florida-based NBA games this month could open the door.

Lashley is currently 110 days into his second reign as United States Champion. He and Riddle have never wrestled each other before.
