A four-year veteran in the G1, Bad Luck Fale finished joint second alongside Hiroshi Tanahashi and below eventual winner Tetsuya Naito in last year's event.

It built from a thoroughly enjoyable IWGP Heavyweight Title match against Kazuchika Okada months earlier and made light of his slightly underrated singles game. The same could be expected from him this summer, despite the relative disarray of Bullet Club in comparison to prior years.
