The Grandest Stage of Them All has gone without a multi-person ladder battle over some gold for far too long! Sure, technically, 'Mania 36 had the strange singles triple-threat over the SmackDown Tag Team Championships. But before that, we hadn't seen a ladder match at the Show of Shows since 'Mania 33's Hardy-unveiling Raw Tag title skirmish.

So, in order to get as many eye-catching names as humanly possible onto this epic card, whilst simultaneously giving them a chance to steal the whole damn show, the simple and likely most effective option is to throw the blue brand's mid-card into an all-out war over SmackDown's Intercontinental Championship. One glance at the show's current STACKED post-Draft, sub-main event pool all but promises an all-timer of a 'Mania ladder bout.

Drew McIntyre, fresh off of no doubt coming painfully close to prising away Roman Reigns' Universal title, would make for a destructive variable, much like former The Bar allies Sheamus & Cesaro. Shinsuke Nakamura always seems to find his groove in these multi-person throw-downs, Jeff Hardy could give us one last 'Mania moment from atop a dizzyingly high ladder, Ricochet would probably do everything in his power to top said event in typically acrobatic fashion. And who better to walk into the event as the Champion desperate to cling onto his gold than the slimiest geezer in the land: Sami Zayn.

Throw them into a squared circle with a bunch of excruciating ladders and watch the good times unfold.
