Ranking 10 WWE Pay-Per-View Main Events Post-Lockdown From Worst To Best
1. Backlash: Edge vs. Randy Orton
How does one go about living up to the tagline 'The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever'? Who thought that was a good idea? Edge and Orton didn't since they outright rejected the moniker leading up to Backlash, but the pair did their best to at least give the fans a conversation worth having once all was said and done.
Unlike their WrestleMania encounter, this one didn't feel like it lasted 200 years - even though it went ten minutes longer than that Last Man Standing contest. The homages to various great matches across the years, the over-the-top Greatest Showman intro, with the voice of the much-missed Howard Finkel providing the introductions were all instantly endearing touches.
It's a love letter to the industry from two of the greatest to ever do it. The fact that it was prerecorded might mean that Dave Meltzer can't give it five stars, and it did lean heavily on those who came before, but it was one hell of a watch. After WrestleMania, there weren't many clamouring for a rematch between these two. Now, we can't wait for them to complete the trilogy.
