7. Triple H Vs. Randy Orton - Judgment Day 2008

Randy Orton Triple H Backlash 2009
WWE

Title: WWE Championship

Match Time: 21:11

The old foes clashed many, many times before this and they would clash many, many times after it. While a lot of their matches would fall into the underwhelming or boring categories, this was a good showing from the pair.

Not their best, but certainly far from their worst.

At a touch over 20 minutes, the match didn’t overstay its welcome, which is rare for a Triple H main event, or any PPV match involving the King of Kings for that matter.

This was a time when Orton was taking to the spotlight, putting in the best work of his career in the 12 months following his return to the World Championship scene in 2007.

It was a relatively shenanigan-free contest, barring a chair that Orton snuck into the ring, but there was no outside interference, ref bumps or Dusty finishes.

They were given the time to construct a three or four star match and that’s pretty well what they delivered in the end, climaxing with a Triple H pinfall win and title retention.
