Ranking Every WWE NXT WarGames Match From Worst To Best
1. Team Ripley vs Team Baszler (2019)
If the in-ring action is crazy and fun enough, a WarGames match can survive without too much story. When the dramatic elements are on point too, though, that’s when you get something really great. WWE so often struggles with booking babyfaces. Here, the black and gold brand shows them how it’s done.
We start with Io Shirai and Candice LeRae, doing great work with a feud behind it. Bianca Belair and then Rhea Ripley enter. Kay Lee Ray joins team Baszler next, but before Ripley’s squad can even out, Dakota Kai lays out squadmate, then ditches. Baszler laughs her head off, then gets in the fray for a four on two.
This is a star-making turn for Ripley, who overcomes the numbers advantage to come out on top after absorbing hair whips, weaponry, and the Kirafuda Clutch. She handcuffs herself to Baszler for a gnarly Riptide through chairs and nabs the unlikely win.
And that’s not even mentioning LeRae’s wild bumping, Shirai’s moonsault off the cage, Belair’s surprisingly great heel-work, and Baszler’s cocky but terrifying aura that made her one of the division’s best ever villains. It’s perfectly structured and so well worked, a brutal triumph.
