Ranking NJPW's Wrestle Kingdom 11 Matches From Worst To Best
1. Kazuchika Okada Vs Kenny Omega
There was huge anticipation before Okada and Omega stepped out into the Tokyo Dome for their first ever single's meeting and the two stars not only met those high expectations, they actually surpassed them.
The buzz about this match after it happened almost broke the Internet, with numerous fans calling it the best match they'd ever seen, while Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter gave it a six-star rating (yes, really) and wrote that"Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada may have put on the greatest match in pro wrestling history." High praise indeed.
While all the love for the match may seem hyperbolic to some - and wrestling is a game of opinions, after all - there is no denying that this was a special moment in wrestling history. An epic encounter, Okada and Omega delivered a contest befitting of headlining the Tokyo Dome in their 45 minute bout. Starting slow, the match built to a frantic conclusion, with the final 20 minutes or so featuring some of the craziest spots, coolest counters and most dramatic kickouts you are ever likely to see in a wrestling ring.
Omega looked incredibly strong in defeat as he became only the third man ever to kick out of The Rainmaker, and was unable to hit his own finisher the One-Winged Angel throughout. This was simply incredible. If you haven't watched this match yet, go and do so; it's a classic. Good luck to every other wrestler in 2017 trying to top what Okada and Omega did in this one.
