Real Reason FTR Dropped The AAA Tag Team Titles
Why did FTR drop their AAA Tag Team titles earlier this week?
FTR look to have finished up their time with AAA... for now anyway.
That's according to a new report from Fightful Select (via WrestlingInc), with it being said that the pair dropping the AAA World Tag Team Championships at the recent AAA Night of Champions event came at the request of the AEW duo themselves.
Said match saw FTR continue their recent losing streak, with the former AEW World Tag Team Champions falling to Dragon Lee and Dralistico before the former revealed that he was heading to WWE in January. This defeat ended FTR's long run with the straps, which had seen them hold the AAA belts for 438 days after besting The Lucha Brothers for the titles on an episode of Dynamite in October 2021.
Dax Harwood would also note recently how the pair's AEW deals were up in spring, and the tag team specialists may opt to take some time off from TV wrestling at some point in 2023.
So, could their current losing streak storyline pave the way for a spell away from the spotlight before once again reminding the world why they're one of the greatest wrestling units on the planet? Possibly.
Either way, FTR look to be done with AAA for the time being and said title straps were subsequently vacated in the wake of Dragon Lee's WWE move, too. The team will now turn their attention to Wrestle Kingdom 17, a an event that will see them defend their IWGP World Tag Team Championships against Bishamon on January 4.
