Reasons Why John Cena & Christian Weren't in WWE Royal Rumble Match
Decision was made late not to include both superstars in the Rumble match.
Christian has recovered from his knee injury and is ready to the return to the ring. Christian, who has been out of action since November, had been expected to turn up at last night's WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view as a surprise entrant but for reasons undisclosed WWE officials decided to hold off his return. There is a chance he will appear on this week's television. In terms of John Cena not being involved in the WWE Royal Rumble match (which was clearly being hyped before the show with the 'every superstar being eligible' statement, WWE officials made the late decision not to include him in the match. One idea that was discussed before Sunday was for John Cena to enter, win the Rumble and thus earning a title shot at WrestleMania 28 and then being forced to decide whether he competes for the WWE Title at the event or wrestles the dream match against The Rock. It is also being reported that there had been several different scenarios played out that involved Randy Orton winning the Rumble in his home town of St. Louis, Missouri. In the end they went with the very surprising decision of Sheamus.
